LINDI, Tanzania — Tanzania's Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) is using this year's Nanenane agricultural exhibition in Southern zone, to promote workplace safety and provide free health screening services to farmers, livestock keepers and the public.
Faston Mwakajwangwa, OSHA's Southern Zone Manager, said the annual exhibition provides an opportunity to reach residents of Lindi, Mtwara and Ruvuma regions with practical information on preventing workplace hazards across different economic activities.
"We are at the Nanenane exhibition to educate the public on occupational safety and health. We encourage farmers and all visitors to stop by our pavilion to access a range of services and learn how to work safely," Mwakajwangwa said.
He said the authority continues to provide occupational safety training to various groups, including farmers, who remain a key pillar of Tanzania's economy.
In addition to awareness programmes, OSHA is showcasing its inspection services, including assessments of electrical systems, industrial machinery, buildings and workplace environmental health using modern inspection equipment.
Visitors to the exhibition are also receiving health screening services designed to detect illnesses associated with workplace conditions, enabling them to obtain professional advice and take preventive measures at an early stage.
Mwakajwangwa said OSHA will continue providing the services at its exhibition stand throughout the Nanenane event, running from August 1 to August 8, and urged residents from southern Tanzania to make use of the opportunity to improve their knowledge of workplace health and safety.
