Muhimbili, partners explore technology to improve patient care

The Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), Mkapa Foundation and Imara Horizon are exploring new areas of collaboration aimed at improving healthcare delivery, expanding the use of technology and strengthening staff welfare.

The discussions focused on opportunities to build on existing partnerships and develop practical solutions that can improve the quality and continuity of services provided to patients.

MNH Executive Director Dr Delilah Kimambo said strengthening the hospital’s technological systems would be critical in ensuring patients continue to receive appropriate care even after leaving the facility.

She singled out home-based care as an area that requires greater attention, saying stronger systems could enable healthcare providers to maintain contact with patients and support their recovery after discharge.

“Strengthening technology will help us improve services, including home-based care, so that patients can continue accessing appropriate support after leaving the hospital,” Dr Kimambo said.

Mkapa Foundation Executive Director Dr Ellen Senkoro thanked MNH for bringing stakeholders together to identify new opportunities for cooperation in the health sector.

She said collaboration among health institutions, development partners and other stakeholders was important in developing solutions based on the actual needs of citizens.

Dr Senkoro added that stronger partnerships could contribute to more resilient health systems and improve the delivery of services to Tanzanians.

The three institutions are expected to strengthen their existing cooperation while exploring new joint initiatives targeting healthcare quality, technology and staff welfare.

The planned collaboration is in line with the objectives of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, which seeks to establish a modern healthcare system that delivers quality and timely services, makes effective use of technology and puts citizens at the centre of service delivery.

The partnership also reflects growing efforts to use technology and collaboration to improve healthcare access and ensure patients receive continued support beyond hospital settings.
