The Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries has retained its position as the best-performing sectoral ministry at the 2026 National and International NaneNane Agricultural Exhibition, marking its second consecutive victory.
The ministry emerged top after outperforming other sectoral ministries in several areas, particularly innovation and the adoption of technologies aimed at addressing challenges facing livestock keepers and fisheries stakeholders.
Its success was driven by a range of technologies and practical initiatives showcased during the exhibition, including Juncao livestock fodder technology, which provides an alternative source of animal feed.
The ministry also demonstrated integrated rice-fish farming, an approach that combines crop and fish production and has the potential to improve land and water use while diversifying farmers’ incomes.
The Livestock Parade was another major attraction, featuring a bull weighing 922 kilogrammes, highlighting the potential of improved livestock production and breeding.
The ministry’s livestock auction also attracted considerable attention, with two cattle fetching a combined TZS 22 million.
Another popular attraction was the Protein Village, which showcased a wide range of protein products derived from livestock and fish.
The initiative sought to demonstrate the contribution of the livestock and fisheries sectors to food and nutrition security while exposing visitors to available investment and production opportunities.
The ministry’s performance was further reinforced by institutions operating under its supervision.
The Fisheries Education and Training Agency (FETA) finished second in its category, while the Livestock Training Agency (LITA) and the Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) each secured third place in their respective categories.
The consecutive victory comes as the government continues to push for greater use of technology, research and innovation to raise productivity and strengthen value chains in the livestock and fisheries sectors.
The NaneNane exhibition, which brings together farmers, livestock keepers, fishers, researchers, investors and government institutions, remains an important platform for showcasing technologies and solutions aimed at transforming Tanzania’s agricultural economy.
