Fountain Gate FC opened their account in the NBC Tanzania Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mashujaa FC at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha on Tuesday.
Kassim Haruna scored the only goal of the match in the 10th minute, capitalising on Fountain Gate's bright start to put his side ahead.
The early breakthrough gave Fountain Gate confidence as they controlled much of the opening exchanges and went into the half-time break with their narrow advantage intact.
Mashujaa came out strongly after the interval, pressing for an equaliser and attempting to put Fountain Gate's defence under sustained pressure.
However, Fountain Gate's backline stood firm, denying Mashujaa the clear-cut opportunities they needed to level the contest.
Fountain Gate also had chances to put the game beyond doubt, but they could not add to Haruna's early strike as the match remained finely balanced until the final whistle.
The result marks Fountain Gate's first victory of the season and earns them their first three points after opening their campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Singida Black Stars.
The win will provide a timely boost for Fountain Gate as they seek to build momentum and improve their position in the league standings.
