Coastal Union have stepped up preparations for a demanding NBC Premier League encounter against defending champions Yanga at CCM Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga on August 20, 2026.
The Tanga side will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing start to the campaign after suffering a 1-0 home defeat to Mashujaa in their opening fixture.
Yanga, meanwhile, head into the clash with confidence after opening their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Namungo in Lindi, setting the stage for a closely contested encounter.
Coastal Union head coach Fikiri Elias said his players had been working hard to ensure they are tactically and physically prepared for the challenge posed by the Dar es Salaam giants.
“We have prepared well. We watched Yanga’s match against Namungo and analysed how they played. That has given us a clear picture of what we need to do to handle our opponents,” Elias said during a training session.
The coach revealed that his players have been training twice a day, in the morning and evening, as part of efforts to sharpen their fitness, tactical understanding and match readiness.
Elias said the squad was also in high spirits, with the players determined to put their opening defeat behind them and produce a strong performance in front of their home supporters.
“Our players have high morale and are eager to give our fans something to celebrate. We know the importance of this match and will fight for a positive result,” he said.
The encounter presents Coastal Union with an early opportunity to revive their campaign, but they face a confident Yanga side that will be seeking to maintain its winning momentum.
For the hosts, victory would not only provide their first points of the season but also restore confidence after their opening-day setback, while Yanga will be aiming to make it two wins from two matches.
