President Samia Suluhu Hassan has left the country for Ghana where she will join other African leaders at a special African Union (AU) summit focused on strengthening healthcare systems and improving access to health services across the continent.
The President departed Tanzania on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, for the one-day working visit to attend the AU Special Summit of Heads of State and Government on Health, scheduled for July 22 in Accra, Ghana.
The summit, held under the theme “Advancing Equity, Equality and Universal Health Coverage,” will bring together African leaders to discuss collective measures to address key health challenges affecting millions of people across the continent.
Among the issues expected to dominate discussions are efforts to eliminate HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, reduce preventable maternal and child deaths, and improve the capacity of health systems to respond to emerging challenges.
The meeting provides a platform for countries to share experiences, strengthen cooperation and explore sustainable approaches to ensuring that citizens across Africa can access quality and affordable healthcare services.
President Samia’s participation reflects Tanzania’s continued involvement in regional efforts aimed at promoting better health outcomes and supporting initiatives that place citizens’ wellbeing at the centre of development priorities.
