President Samia appoints new EWURA chief, board chairpersons

DAR ES SALAAM. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed a new Director General for the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) and named new chairpersons to the boards of two key public institutions.

A statement issued by Chief Secretary Ambassador Dr Moses Kusiluka on Tuesday said Salum Nassor Mnuna has been appointed Director General of EWURA, the regulator responsible for overseeing Tanzania's energy and water utilities sectors.

The President also appointed Prof Esron Daniel Karimuribo as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Tanzania Livestock Research Institute (TALIRI), replacing the institute's board leadership as part of ongoing appointments to public institutions.

In a separate appointment, Paul Peter Olekashe was named Chairperson of the Board of the Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI).

The appointments were announced in a statement released by the Directorate of Presidential Communications at State House and signed by the Director of Presidential Communications, Shaaban Kissu, on July 21, 2026.
