The new Misegese Bus Terminal in Malinyi District, Morogoro Region, will officially begin operations on July 26, 2026, in a move expected to improve public transport services, enhance passenger safety and stimulate business activities in the district.
Speaking while closing a meeting of the Misegese Bus Terminal Management Committee at the Malinyi District Council headquarters, the Council's Executive Director, Jaaphary Hamis Katimba, announced that from the effective date, all passenger buses operating within and outside the district will be required to start and end their journeys at the new terminal.
He said the facility will accommodate medium-sized buses carrying up to 40 passengers, as well as smaller passenger vehicles, including Coasters, Hiace vans and Noahs, serving both intra-district and inter-district routes within Morogoro Region and beyond.
"I am pleased to officially announce that, effective July 26, 2026, all passenger buses operating from Malinyi District to other districts within Morogoro Region and to destinations outside the region will commence and terminate their journeys at the new Misegese Bus Terminal," Katimba said.
He noted that the new terminal is part of the government's efforts to strengthen the management of public transport services by ensuring that all buses undergo inspection, pay the required levies and operate in a safe and well-organized environment for passengers.
Katimba further stressed that no bus will be allowed to pick up or drop off passengers outside the designated terminal.
"No bus operating outside Malinyi District will be permitted to pick up or drop off passengers outside this terminal. Anyone who violates this directive will face penalties in accordance with the district's by-laws," he said.
In addition to improving transport services, Katimba said the terminal has created new economic opportunities for local residents. He encouraged people in Malinyi District to apply for the commercial stalls that will be allocated through an established leasing process.
Meanwhile, Joseph Marugu, Chairperson of the Njiapanda Small Traders Association and a member of the terminal management committee, commended the government for setting aside designated business areas for various groups, including food vendors, motorcycle taxi operators (bodaboda) and small-scale traders.
He said the initiative will provide traders with permanent and organized business spaces, replacing the previous situation in which many had to operate from temporary or informal locations.
The terminal, which has so far been constructed at a cost of approximately 400 million Tanzanian shillings, is equipped with key facilities, including a police post, administrative offices, clean water supply, modern sanitation facilities and designated commercial areas. Additional improvements will be undertaken as demand grows.
The opening of the Misegese Bus Terminal is expected to boost economic activities in Malinyi District by increasing business opportunities, improving the council's revenue collection and enhancing the efficiency of public transport services.
With buses operating both day and night, local traders are expected to benefit from increased customer traffic around the clock, contributing to higher incomes and accelerated economic growth in the area.
