Minister for Home Affairs Patrobas Katambi has urged young Tanzanians to take an active role in protecting the country’s peace and security, warning against attempts to use them to disrupt national stability.
Speaking to a group of construction workers in Shinyanga Region, Mr Katambi said young people are an important force in building Tanzania and should remain patriotic, responsible and committed to preserving the peace that allows citizens to pursue economic and social opportunities.
He called on the youth to reject messages that promote divisions based on religion, ethnicity, regional differences or political interests, saying such conflicts can undermine development and affect the lives of ordinary citizens.
“Once people are pushed into conflicts based on religion, ethnicity or regional differences, they end up suffering the consequences. Those who encourage chaos may benefit temporarily, but ordinary citizens and their families bear the greatest burden,” Mr Katambi said.
The Minister encouraged citizens, including workers at construction sites, to cooperate with security authorities by reporting suspicious activities early to help prevent crime and maintain public safety.
He said Tanzania’s stability depends on the participation of all citizens, adding that the government remains committed to protecting human rights and upholding the rule of law.
“Wherever you work, continue providing information to security organs whenever you notice anything suspicious. By working together, we can protect our country and create a safer environment for everyone,” Mr Katambi said.
He added that maintaining peace is essential for attracting investment, creating jobs and ensuring Tanzanians continue benefiting from national development efforts.
