The Mbeya Regional Police Force has stepped up efforts to improve service delivery through digital technology, with public support and stakeholder cooperation helping to strengthen crime prevention initiatives across the region.
The acting Mbeya Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Wilbert Siwa, said the use of electronic equipment and digital systems was becoming increasingly important in improving police operations and enhancing efficiency.
He made the remarks on July 21, 2026, after receiving a computer donated by Ilemi Ward Councillor Baraka Zambi to support Community Policing activities in Mbeya District.
ACP Siwa said the equipment would help police officers improve their daily operations, particularly as the Tanzania Police Force continues to expand the use of technology in its services.
“This support has come at the right time as the Police Force continues to focus on digital systems in its operations. These tools will help increase efficiency and professionalism in delivering our responsibilities,” he said.
He also praised residents and local leaders for their continued partnership with the police, saying community involvement has contributed to improved security and a reduction in crime incidents.
According to ACP Siwa, awareness programmes conducted by police officers and ward-level police officers have helped citizens understand their role in maintaining peace and security, while also encouraging communities to support law enforcement initiatives.
Mr Zambi said the donation was motivated by the positive cooperation between police officers and residents in Mbeya, noting that Community Policing programmes had contributed to improved security conditions in Ilemi Ward.
“Through Community Policing, we have seen a decline in crime cases. Young people have received education that has helped them change their behaviour and become more responsible members of society,” he said.
Iwambi Ward Councillor Gloria Mwamajemba, popularly known as Mchina, said Community Policing had played an important role in strengthening security by creating closer cooperation between police officers and citizens.
She said public education and regular engagement between communities and security authorities had helped residents become more involved in preventing crime.
The Mbeya Regional Police Force continues to promote the Community Policing approach, which focuses on partnership between law enforcement agencies, local leaders and citizens.
The initiative has been credited with improving information sharing, supporting crime prevention efforts and strengthening public safety across the region.
