Young Africans SC (Yanga) have continued to assert their dominance in the NBC Premier League after securing a crucial 2-0 victory over Mashujaa FC at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma.
The result strengthened Yanga’s position at the top of the table, taking their tally to 63 points and keeping them firmly on course to defend their league.
Their closest challengers, Simba SC, remain second with 58 points, maintaining pressure in the title race as the season edges towards its decisive stages.
The match in Kigoma was tightly contested from the start, with both sides adopting a cautious approach in the opening minutes.
Yanga and Mashujaa FC exchanged attacking moves, but well-organised defensive lines on both ends ensured clear scoring chances were limited.
Yanga eventually broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when Mudathir Yahya finished clinically after a well-coordinated attacking move, giving the visitors a deserved 1-0 lead.
The goal boosted Yanga’s confidence as they controlled large spells of the first half and went into the break ahead.
After the restart, Mashujaa FC returned with increased intensity, pushing forward in search of an equaliser. Yanga, however, remained disciplined, managing the game effectively while also looking for opportunities to extend their advantage.
Despite sustained pressure from Mashujaa in the closing stages, Yanga’s defensive structure held firm, denying the hosts any clear route back into the match.
The visitors demonstrated composure and experience to manage the tempo and protect their narrow lead.
In stoppage time, Yanga sealed the victory when Bakari Mwamnyeto struck in the 90+2 minute, confirming a 2-0 away win and ensuring maximum points from a challenging fixture in Kigoma.
In another NBC Premier League encounter at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya, Mbeya City made full use of home advantage to register a narrow 1-0 victory over Mtibwa Sugar, collecting vital three points in their league campaign.
