Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi has invited Turkish companies to invest in the Isles, highlighting opportunities in trade, energy and infrastructure as part of efforts to accelerate economic growth.
Dr Mwinyi extended the invitation on May 2, 2026, during talks at the State House with Volkan Isikci, Director General for Africa Affairs at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey. The meeting was also attended by Bekir Geze.
He said increased Turkish investment would strengthen the long-standing historical ties between Zanzibar and Turkey while opening new avenues for trade and economic cooperation.
The President identified key priority areas for investment, including energy, agriculture, tourism, healthcare and infrastructure, stressing the need to promote value addition to local products and enhance productivity.
The engagement comes as Zanzibar steps up efforts to attract foreign direct investment to drive industrialisation and job creation.
For his part, Ambassador Isikci reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and supporting Zanzibar’s development agenda across sectors such as education, health, agriculture and tourism.
