Simba Queens are stepping up preparations ahead of their highly anticipated Women’s Premier League derby against Yanga Princess, scheduled for May 15 at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.

Head coach Mussa Hassan Mgosi said the team is fully focused on securing all three points as they continue their push for the league title this season.

Speaking on the team’s buildup, Mgosi said the technical bench is closely assessing both strengths and weaknesses within the squad to ensure the players reach peak performance before the important encounter.

He noted that, despite the intensity of the rivalry, the match also provides a clear picture of the growing competitiveness of the Women’s Premier League.

He acknowledged that the derby will be a tough challenge but insisted that his team understands its importance in the title race and is working hard to be fully prepared.

“The match will not be easy because of the strong competition between the two teams, but we know its importance. It gives us a good picture of the league. We are working hard to ensure we are 100 percent ready,” said Mgosi.

According to him, training sessions have been progressing well, with players showing strong commitment and high morale as the squad builds towards the fixture.

He added that the overall atmosphere in camp remains positive, with players eager to earn their place in the starting lineup.

Mgosi also confirmed encouraging news on the injury front, noting that several players who had been sidelined have returned to full training and are now available for selection.

This, he said, has increased competition within the squad and strengthened the team ahead of the derby.

He emphasized that healthy competition among players is pushing standards higher, as everyone fights for a place in the final matchday squad.

“The players who will get a chance to feature will be expected to give their all to help the team achieve its objectives,” he said.

As the derby approaches, anticipation continues to grow among fans, with both Simba Queens and Yanga Princess expected to deliver a highly competitive and entertaining encounter.

The fixture remains one of the standout matches of the Women’s Premier League calendar, drawing significant attention due to the historic rivalry between the two sides.

Simba Queens will be aiming not only for victory, but also to strengthen their position in the title race and maintain momentum as the season progresses.
