Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) has stepped up its advocacy for preventive healthcare services by taking part in a high-level scientific conference that has brought together internal medicine specialists and healthcare experts from across Tanzania.

The hospital’s Executive Director, Dr Delilah Kimambo, on Friday led a team of specialists from Muhimbili to the two-day Scientific Conference of Internal Medicine Specialists and the association’s annual general meeting being held in Dodoma.

The conference, hosted at the Best Western Dodoma City Hotel, is taking place under the theme: “Protect Future Lives by Strengthening Healthcare Services Through Preventive Medicine.”

Speaking at the event, participants underscored the need for the country to strengthen preventive healthcare systems as Tanzania continues to face a growing burden of non-communicable diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, cancer and cardiovascular illnesses.

Dr Kimambo is expected to deliver a presentation focusing on the contribution of healthcare institutions in promoting preventive medicine and improving the quality of specialised treatment services in the country.

Her presentation is also expected to highlight the importance of early diagnosis, public awareness and investment in specialised healthcare services as key pillars in improving national health outcomes.

In addition to participating in scientific discussions, Muhimbili has deployed a team of health experts at the conference venue to provide free health education to wananchi attending the event.

The experts are offering guidance on healthy lifestyles, routine medical check-ups and disease prevention strategies aimed at reducing the prevalence of chronic illnesses and improving overall community wellbeing.

The conference has brought together physicians, researchers, policymakers and healthcare stakeholders to exchange experiences and discuss practical solutions for strengthening Tanzania’s healthcare sector through preventive and patient-centred care.

Muhimbili’s participation further reflects the hospital’s growing role not only as the country’s leading referral facility, but also as a key institution in advancing public health awareness and specialised medical services.
