The Government of Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with the Republic of Namibia, with a focus on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, the blue economy, livestock, and the mining sector.
This was revealed on April 23, 2026, when the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Dr. Samwel Shelukindo, held talks with the Ambassador of Namibia to Tanzania, Gabrieli Sinimbo, at the Ministry’s sub-offices in Dar es Salaam.
The discussions focused on identifying practical opportunities that can further enhance the long-standing cordial relations between the two countries, while promoting shared economic growth and development for the benefit of their citizens.
Ambassador Dr. Shelukindo emphasized Tanzania’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Namibia, particularly in strategic sectors that have the potential to create jobs, attract investment, and improve livelihoods.
He noted that the government continues to strengthen its diplomatic engagement with African partners in order to unlock economic opportunities within the continent.
He further underscored that areas such as trade and investment remain central in advancing bilateral relations, adding that both countries stand to benefit from increased exchange of goods, services, and business partnerships between their private sectors.
On his part, Ambassador Sinimbo expressed Namibia’s strong interest in expanding cooperation with Tanzania, highlighting the importance of turning diplomatic relations into practical economic outcomes that directly benefit citizens.
He noted that Namibia is keen to work closely with Tanzania in developing value chains, promoting industrial collaboration, and strengthening technical cooperation in key sectors such as mining, livestock development, and maritime resources.
The two leaders also placed strong emphasis on the blue economy, recognizing its growing importance in driving sustainable development.
They agreed that enhanced cooperation in this area could open up opportunities in fisheries, marine resources management, and coastal economic activities.
In the livestock sector, both sides acknowledged its importance in supporting rural communities and contributing to national economies.
They explored opportunities for sharing best practices in animal husbandry, improving productivity, and expanding market access for livestock products.
The mining sector was also highlighted as a key area of potential cooperation, with discussions focusing on the need to share expertise in mineral exploration, processing, and regulatory systems to ensure that natural resources deliver greater benefits to citizens.
Additionally, the meeting stressed the importance of collaboration in science, technology, and social development.
Both sides agreed that exchanging knowledge and expertise in these areas would support innovation and improve service delivery in key sectors.
