The Tanzania Public Institutions and Private Companies Sports Association (SHIMMUTA) has ushered in a new leadership team that will serve for the next four years, following a general election held over the weekend in Arusha.

Mercel Bituro was elected Chairperson, taking over the helm of the association at a time when expectations are high for stronger coordination and expansion of sports activities across institutions and companies. He will be deputised by Fedrick Semtau, who assumes the role of Vice Chairperson.

The position of Secretary General went to Dr. Maswet Mashindano, with Dr. Issa Hamis Issa elected as Assistant Secretary. In the finance docket, CPA Moses Mngondo was appointed Treasurer, assisted by CPA Violeth Paul as Deputy Treasurer.

Other members elected into the executive committee are Peter Lazier, Yotham Gitige, Ashrafu Athumani, Deogratius Mdevu and Nicholous Ngowi. Women’s representation will be led by Dr. Saumu Mkomwa and Mwanahamisi Mkwizu.

Speaking after his election, Bituro pledged to build on both completed and unfinished initiatives inherited from the outgoing leadership. He stressed the need to ensure continuity while introducing new strategies that will strengthen SHIMMUTA’s role in promoting sports, unity and wellness among employees in both the public and private sectors.

He said the new leadership will focus on improving the organisation of competitions, expanding participation, and nurturing talent within workplaces across the country.

The new team takes office with a clear mandate to elevate SHIMMUTA’s profile and impact, as the association continues to play a key role in promoting sports development beyond traditional community and professional levels.
