The government has moved to strengthen leadership at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital after the Minister for Health, Mohamed Omary Mchengerwa, appointed new members to its Board of Trustees.

The appointments, announced in an official statement issued on April 19, 2026 in Dodoma, follow the decision by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to name Prof. Edward G. Hoseah as the board’s chairperson.

According to the Ministry of Health, the minister acted under the legal framework governing the establishment of the hospital, completing the formation of the board in line with the 2015 charter.

The newly appointed members are Prof. Lilian Teddy Msele, Dr. Bashiri Juma Nyangasa, Dr. Shakilu Jumanne Kayungo, Dr. Baraka Jeremiah Nzobo and Dr. Seif S. Rashid.

The ministry said the new board will be sworn in on April 21, 2026 at the hospital in Dodoma, marking the start of its official duties.

Benjamin Mkapa Hospital is one of the country’s key referral facilities, providing specialised medical services and supporting training and research.

The new appointments are part of broader efforts by the government to improve governance and enhance the quality of healthcare services in Tanzania.
