Four healthcare workers have been suspended by the Tanganyika District Council following the tragic death of a pregnant woman at Karema Health Centre.
The District Executive Director (DED), Shabani J. Juma, confirmed in a public notice on March 30, 2026, that the incident occurred on March 24. Preliminary reports indicate possible lapses in service delivery at the facility.
The suspended staff include two clinical officers, one nurse, and one medical doctor.
“The Council received the report of this expectant mother’s passing with deep sadness,” the notice stated.
“To ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, the Executive Director has suspended the four employees pending the outcome of a formal inquiry.”he added
A specialized committee comprising medical experts and consultant doctors has been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the patient’s care.
The Council reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward negligence that endangers citizens’ lives, emphasizing that appropriate legal and disciplinary action will be taken against any staff found responsible.
A detailed report is expected once the expert team completes its investigation.
