As Muslims across Uyole prepare to celebrate Idd, former Speaker of Parliament and current Member of Parliament for Uyole, Dr. Tulia Ackson, also President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), has extended a helping hand to 204 underprivileged worshippers from 17 local mosques.
Through the Tulia Trust Foundation, the support was handed over on March 17, 2026, at the Uyole District Mosque, targeting community members facing hardship during the holy month of Ramadan.
Jackline Boaz, Manager of the foundation, said the 204 food packages were delivered on behalf of Dr. Tulia, who could not attend the event.
Each mosque identified 12 worshippers in need, with packages containing five kilograms of rice, one kilogram each of wheat flour, sembe, cooking oil, and beans.
“Our aim is to ensure these worshippers have iftar during Ramadan and can celebrate Idd with dignity,” Boaz said.
Sheikh Ibrahim Bombo, member of the Mbeya Regional Council of Sheikhs, praised Dr. Tulia’s generosity, noting her long-standing contribution to the community and her commitment to supporting the most vulnerable, including the elderly and low-income families.
Mbeya’s Chief Sheikh, Alhaji Msafiri Nyarambaha, said Dr. Tulia’s initiatives have strengthened social cohesion and promoted unity across religious communities.
“Her consistent support has fostered harmony, even bringing together worshippers from different faiths during iftar,” he said, adding that despite her high-profile leadership roles, Dr. Tulia remains close to the people of Uyole, earning their respect and admiration.
