The Ambassador-designate of Tanzania to Oman, Ms Maulidah Hassan, has pledged to strengthen economic diplomacy and deepen the long-standing historical ties between the two countries as she prepares to assume her diplomatic duties.

Ms Hassan made the remarks during a farewell meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, held at the ministry’s sub-office in Dar es Salaam.

Her appointment follows a decision by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to assign her to represent Tanzania in Oman as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s diplomatic presence and expand international cooperation.

During the meeting, Mr Kombo congratulated Ms Hassan for earning the confidence of the President, noting that her previous role as the President’s Personal Assistant responsible for diplomatic affairs exposed her to high-level engagements in international relations and government operations.

He said Tanzania expects its diplomatic missions abroad to play a greater role in advancing economic diplomacy by promoting investment opportunities, strengthening trade relations and expanding tourism cooperation.

Mr Kombo noted that Oman remains an important partner for Tanzania due to the deep historical, cultural and economic connections that link the two countries, particularly along the Indian Ocean trade routes.

He therefore urged the ambassador-designate to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as trade, investment and tourism while ensuring that the interests and welfare of Tanzanian citizens living and working in Oman are safeguarded.

The minister added that Tanzania’s diplomatic missions continue to serve as platforms for promoting the country’s economic interests abroad and strengthening international partnerships.

For her part, Ms Hassan thanked President Samia for the confidence placed in her and said she would carry out her duties with professionalism, integrity and dedication.

She said her priority will be to advance Tanzania’s economic diplomacy agenda by encouraging business partnerships, promoting investment opportunities and strengthening tourism cooperation between Tanzania and Oman.

Ms Hassan added that the historical relations between the two countries provide a strong foundation for expanding economic cooperation and strengthening people-to-people relations.

She said she will work closely with relevant institutions and stakeholders to promote Tanzania’s economic potential and further deepen the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
