The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen strategic collaboration with the Government of Tanzania, aiming to boost productivity and livelihoods in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.

Speaking during a high-level meeting, Dr. Jim Yonazi, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister (Policy, Parliament, Coordination, and Persons with Disabilities), welcomed IFAD’s pledge to expand support for development projects across the country.

The discussions were held with IFAD Resident Director, Mr. Sakphouseth Meng, and focused on assessing ongoing initiatives and exploring opportunities to reach more farmers and fishers.

Mr. Meng confirmed that IFAD will continue providing loans and financial resources to support projects that directly benefit rural communities.

He highlighted key areas of focus, including enhancing rural incomes, improving productivity in agriculture and fisheries, and empowering citizens to achieve economic self-reliance.

Dr. Yonazi assured IFAD leadership of the government’s full cooperation, noting that the partnership has already delivered tangible results for Tanzanians.

“The Government is committed to strengthening this collaboration, as the progress achieved so far has positively transformed the lives of many people,” he said.

The meeting also brought together senior officials and experts, including Dr. Jacqueline Motcho, IFAD Program Officer; Mr. Paul Sangawe, Director of Policy and Coordination (Office of the Prime Minister); and Mr. Salum Mwinjaka, Coordinator of the Agriculture and Fisheries Development Program (AFDP).

The continued partnership underscores the growing impact of the AFDP, which has been a cornerstone in advancing Tanzania’s agriculture and fisheries sectors, improving productivity, and supporting sustainable rural livelihoods.
