The Vice President of Tanzania, Ambassador Dr. Emmanueli Nchimbi, is set to inaugurate a modern Leaders’ Building at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam. The facility will host both national and international leaders.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam, Minister of Transport, Prof. Makame Mbarawa, said the government is advancing aviation and transport projects across the country through the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA).

These include airports in Dodoma (Msalato), Sumbawanga, Tabora, Manyara, Shinyanga, Tanga, Iringa, and Songwe.

Prof. Mbarawa added that to boost tourism, trade, and agriculture, the Ministry is planning new airports in Serengeti, Kagera, and Njombe. Funding will be allocated once feasibility studies are completed.

The minister also highlighted efforts to strengthen the national carrier, Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), by increasing medium- and long-range aircraft. “This expansion will open Tanzania to more business and economic opportunities,” he said.

The Leaders’ Building at JNIA is complete. The one-story facility has five halls for national leaders, including two conference rooms and restaurants.

It is equipped with modern electricity, water, telecommunications, and air-conditioning systems.

The project, completed on October 31, 2025, by contractor CRJE under TAA supervision, created around 1,100 formal and informal jobs. Locally sourced materials such as cement, bricks, gravel, and steel rods were used in construction.

Focus Engineering and Maintenance Director, Focus Kadeghe, said the building is specially designed for prominent leaders.

He added that maintenance and renovation costs for all Tanzanian airports currently total TZS 2 trillion.

Prof. Mbarawa urged Dar es Salaam residents to join the inauguration ceremony on January 16, 2026, led by Vice President Dr. Emmanueli Nchimbi.

“This modern facility will serve as a hub for international leaders and visiting heads of state,” he said.
