Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba on December 20, 2025 inspected the progress of the Likong’o new primary school project in Lindi Region, which is being implemented through a partnership involving the LNG Project and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC).
The school, located in Likong’o village, is expected to cost TZS1.2 billion upon completion. Of the total amount, the government has contributed 26.6 percent, while Shell and Equinor have each provided 36.6 percent, reflecting a strong public–private partnership aimed at improving access to education in communities surrounding the LNG project area.
Addressing residents during the inspection, Dr. Nchemba urged communities in Lindi and across the country to ensure that children are enrolled in school, noting that President Samia Suluhu Hassan has created an enabling environment for Tanzanian children to access quality education.
He said the government continues to invest heavily in the education sector, including strengthening human resources.
Dr. Nchemba noted that President Samia fulfilled her pledge to recruit teachers within her first 100 days in office, adding that interviews have already been conducted and 7,000 teachers are set to be employed.
“These teachers will report to their respective duty stations by January 10, 2026, further strengthening the delivery of education services across the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (POM-RALG), Reuben Kwagilwa, said President Samia has allocated TZS114 billion to address education needs in Lindi Region, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving learning infrastructure and outcomes in the area.
The Likong’o Primary School project is part of broader social investment initiatives linked to the LNG project, aimed at supporting community development and improving access to essential social services in host regions.
