Minister Kijaji pushes for completion of key development projects at Ruaha National Park

The Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji (MP), has called on the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) to fast-track the completion of ongoing development projects at Ruaha National Park, ensuring they are fully operational and contribute to boosting tourism in southern Tanzania.

During an official visit to the park on December 18, 2025, Minister Kijaji inspected several major projects, including the Kiganga airstrip, the Visitor Information Centre (VIC), tourist cottages, and the Ecological Monitoring Centre, all constructed under the REGROW initiative.

“These projects must be completed on time, as agreed with the contractors, so that southern Tanzania can open up for tourism and attract more visitors to Ruaha. This is critical if we are to reach the government’s target of eight million tourists by 2030,” said Minister Kijaji.

TANAPA Commissioner for Conservation, CPA Musa Nassoro Kuji, noted that Ruaha National Park is working on introducing new tourism products and attracting investors to enhance visitor experiences, increase revenue, and promote the park’s profile nationally and internationally.

“Honourable Minister, we plan to launch new attractions such as horse riding experiences, hot spring SPA tourism, and visits to the natural pillars.

Completing the ongoing projects, combined with these new offerings and investment interest, will significantly increase both visitor numbers and revenue for the park,” Commissioner Kuji explained.

Minister Kijaji’s visit is part of a series of official inspections alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, including Hamad Chande (MP), Deputy Minister; Mr. Nkoba Mabula, Deputy Permanent Secretary; Dr. Thereza Mugobi, Director of Tourism; and Dr. Fortunata Msoffe, representative of the Director of Wildlife.

The Minister’s directive underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging Tanzania’s natural heritage to drive sustainable tourism growth, enhance local economies, and position Ruaha National Park as a leading destination in the southern tourism circuit.
