Aweso sets up task force in Dar to tackle water shortages

The Minister for Water, Jumaa Aweso, has intensified efforts to tackle the ongoing water shortages in Dar es Salaam and Coast Region by setting up a dedicated response team on the ground.

During his working tour on December 7, 2025, the Minister inspected major water storage tanks and the Ruvu Chini water production plant to assess the situation firsthand.

The shortages follow delayed rains, which have reduced production and increased pressure on the distribution system.

Aweso urged residents to store water whenever possible during this period, noting that responsible use and preparedness will help ease the impact as operations stabilise.

To enhance supply, he directed the Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA) to collaborate with private operators who have high-capacity boreholes.

He said such partnerships will help widen distribution channels and minimise disruptions in affected areas.

The Minister also instructed DAWASA to connect all government-drilled boreholes to the main water network.

According to him, integrating these sources will increase the volume available for distribution and improve overall supply reliability.

Aweso assured the public that the government is implementing both immediate and long-term measures aimed at restoring steady water flow and ensuring a more resilient supply system in the future.
