The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) is taking bold steps to enhance tourism services at the Amboni Caves in Tanga, aiming to make the site more attractive to both local and international visitors.

Acting Public Relations Manager and Chief Conservation Officer, Hamis Dambaya, said the upgrades are part of a broader plan to improve visitor experiences, generate more revenue, and expand the region’s tourism offerings.

“Visitors will now enjoy better lighting, clearly marked walking paths, modern ICT facilities, and comfortable relaxation areas. Access roads are in good condition, and the main gate has been completed. We will continue to make improvements so that more people can explore and enjoy this amazing site,” Dambaya explained.

Among the planned upgrades are enhancements to the main entrance road and the introduction of new tourism activities that highlight the natural and historical significance of the caves.

The Amboni Caves are one of Tanzania’s most unique natural attractions, featuring rock formations that date back to the early formation of the Earth.

Senior Conservation Officer Ramadhan Rashid said the site currently attracts around 18,000 visitors each year, and this number is expected to rise significantly once the improvements are fully implemented.

With these initiatives, the NCAA aims to make Amboni Caves not just a tourist destination, but a space where citizens and visitors alike can learn, relax, and appreciate Tanzania’s rich natural heritage.
