KMC head coach Marcio Maximo has blamed a controversial penalty decision for disrupting his team’s performance in their 4–1 defeat to Yanga at KMC Complex Stadium.
Maximo argued that the penalty, which he insisted was unjustified, significantly affected his players’ composure and confidence during the second half.
“For much of the game, we played cautiously and created several scoring opportunities. We went into halftime at 1–1, but around the 75th minute, Yanga was awarded a penalty that completely unsettled my players,” Maximo said.
“Even Yanga’s own players were smiling because they knew it wasn’t a legitimate call. The referee essentially handed them an advantage, and from there they scored consecutive goals,” he added.
KMC midfielder Oscar Paul admitted that his team made mistakes that allowed Yanga to capitalize and secure the victory.
“We played well in the first half, but Yanga is a strong team. They punished our errors and claimed three important points. Losing five consecutive matches is tough, but we will regroup and work harder,” Paul said.
He confirmed that KMC will focus on training and tactical adjustments ahead of their next match against JKT Tanzania, scheduled at the same venue.
On the other hand, Yanga midfielder Offen Chikola described the match as challenging, praising KMC’s disciplined approach despite their struggles this season.
“We knew it wouldn’t be easy because KMC was fighting for results. We followed the coach’s instructions, remained calm, and made the most of our chances,” Chikola said.
