The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Elijah Mwandumbya, has commended the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) for its strong contribution to national development through efficient tax collection and continued efforts to improve the business and investment environment.

Mr. Mwandumbya issued the praise yesterday in Dar es Salaam while officiating the 18th graduation ceremony of the Institute of Tax Administration (ITA) on behalf of the Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP).

He noted that TRA’s performance has been instrumental in sustaining government operations, financing key services, and supporting Tanzania’s economic aspirations.

He challenged the authority to maintain its momentum by ensuring that businesses are enabled to grow and that investors operate in a predictable and supportive regulatory environment.

“The work being done by TRA is significant. I urge the authority to continue facilitating trade and investment for the benefit of the entire nation, while also resolving taxpayers’ challenges across all sectors according to their specific conditions,” he said.

Addressing the country’s goal of financial self-reliance, Mr. Mwandumbya echoed the remarks of TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, who earlier emphasized that the current strategy focuses on sealing tax evasion loopholes, broadening the tax base, and supporting enterprise development rather than increasing tax rates.

He said strengthening compliance, improving technology, and creating an inclusive tax system will accelerate Tanzania’s progress towards reducing dependence on external support.
