A total of 26,254,042 kilograms of cashew nuts have been collected and traded through the Warehouse Receipt System in Mtwara Region, according to the Warehouse Receipts Regulatory Board (WRRB) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The auction, conducted on November 8, 2025 through TANECU Cooperative Union, saw competitive bidding with prices ranging between TZS 2,550 and TZS 3,520 per kilogram, reflecting strong market demand for Tanzanian cashew nuts.
Officials from WRRB said the results demonstrate continued confidence in the warehouse receipt system, which ensures transparency, fair pricing, and timely payments to farmers.
Cashew nuts remain one of Tanzania’s leading export crops, contributing significantly to rural incomes and foreign exchange earnings. Mtwara, known as the country’s cashew hub, continues to lead in production and quality improvement efforts supported by the government and private sector.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized that the warehouse system not only protects farmers from price fluctuations but also enhances access to financial services by using stored produce as collateral.
