The Mining Commission has praised the significant investment made by God Mwanga Gems Ltd, a graphite mining company based in Handeni District, Tanga Region, for its contribution to Tanzania’s growing mineral economy.

The commendation came during an official visit by Commissioners Eng. Theonestina Mwasha and Dr. Theresia Numbi, who led a team of directors, managers, and regional mining officers to inspect operations at the God Mwanga Graphite Mine.

The visit was part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to ensure that mining activities across the country adhere to national laws, environmental regulations, and safety standards while promoting transparency and accountability in the sector.

Eng. Mwasha said the Commission was impressed by the company’s investment and professionalism in implementing modern mining and processing practices.

She noted that graphite has become one of the most strategic minerals globally due to its growing demand in electric vehicle (EV) batteries, renewable energy storage systems, and high-tech industries.

“We are proud to see Tanzanian companies like God Mwanga Gems Ltd making progress in graphite mining. The demand for this mineral continues to rise globally, offering Tanzania a unique opportunity to expand its exports and industrial base,” she said.

On her part, Dr. Numbi emphasized the need for more investment in value addition and local processing to ensure that Tanzanians benefit more from the country’s mineral wealth.

“We encourage investors to focus on establishing more processing plants within Tanzania to enhance job creation and ensure greater economic returns,” Dr. Numbi said.

Godlisten Mwanga, Chief Executive Officer of God Mwanga Gems Ltd, said the company has recorded steady progress since beginning operations and appealed to the government to continue promoting Tanzania’s graphite sector internationally.

“We have the capacity to produce world-class graphite. With government support in promoting Tanzania’s resources, we can reach more global markets, increase revenue collection, and create more employment opportunities,” Mwanga said.

According to Henry Mbando, the mine’s manager, God Mwanga Gems Ltd was officially registered in 2012 and began active mining and processing of graphite in Tanga in 2021.

The company currently processes 350 tonnes of graphite per day, with a purity level of 97 percent, but plans to expand production to 1,000 tonnes daily, positioning it among the world’s top graphite producers.

Mbando added that the company prioritizes environmental conservation by replanting trees in mined areas, managing water usage efficiently, and handling chemicals safely in line with national regulations.

“We are committed to sustainable mining. Environmental management is part of our operational culture,” he said.

The company has also contributed to community development projects, including constructing the Kwa Msisi Health Centre, building 10 classrooms, improving roads, and employing 625 Tanzanians.

God Mwanga Gems Ltd is recognized as a major player in Tanzania’s graphite industry, known for its ethical practices and technological innovation. Its long-term vision is to transform mining into a driver of inclusive growth and industrial transformation.

The Mining Commission continues to monitor mining operations nationwide to promote compliance, strengthen investor confidence, and foster collaboration between the government, private sector, and local communities.
