Residents of Nansio town in Ukerewe District are set to benefit from improved road infrastructure as the government upgrades key urban roads to tarmac standard.

The RTC-Sungura road (0.321 kilometers) and the Pump House road (0.299 kilometers) are currently under construction, marking a step forward in efforts to modernize Ukerewe’s transport network.

The projects are expected to ease movement within the island’s main commercial hub, enhance trade, and improve access to essential services.

Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) responsible for Infrastructure, Engineer Rogatus Mativila, inspected the projects during his working tour in the district.

He received progress reports from Ukerewe District Commissioner,Christopher Ngubiagai.

Local leaders say the projects symbolize government commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges faced by island communities, where poor roads have long hindered transport and economic activity.

Once completed, the roads are expected to reduce dust and mud-related inconveniences, improve road safety, and attract more investment opportunities for the island economy.
