TANESCO customers face Luku purchase disruptions

By The Respondent Reporter

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) has announced a temporary hitch affecting the purchase of electricity tokens (Luku) through selected payment channels.

The company said on Monday, September 22, 2025, that customers are currently unable to buy Luku using Yas and Vodacom mobile networks, as well as through NMB Bank.

In its statement, TANESCO advised customers to use alternative mobile money platforms, other banking services, or authorized Luku agents available across the country.

“We are closely working with the affected service providers to restore normal operations. Technical teams from the networks and the bank are already addressing the challenge,” the statement said.

The utility assured customers that they will be updated once the issue is resolved.

For many households and businesses, Luku is the lifeline for accessing electricity, meaning disruptions in purchasing tokens often cause immediate inconvenience.

TANESCO’s quick advisory is aimed at minimizing this impact while restoration efforts are underway.
