Kalalani Village celebrates new police station funded by TANAPA

Kalalani Village residents are celebrating as a new police station, funded by the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), was officially handed over to strengthen security and protect local communities.

The project, which cost about TZS 150.62 million, includes a building with over eight rooms, a reception area, water and wastewater systems, and electricity.

TANAPA’s investment reflects its commitment to returning benefits from conservation and tourism to local communities, helping residents enjoy improved public services and safety.

For years, villagers had to travel over 30 kilometers to access police services, particularly from nearby Masewa. The new station will now provide fast, local support for crime prevention and emergency response.

Retired General George Waitara, TANAPA Board Chairman, handed over the station to Korogwe District Commissioner William Mwakilema on behalf of the community. He highlighted the station’s importance:
"Kalalani is a border village, and security is crucial. I urge residents to work closely with the police stationed here to keep their community safe."

Commissioner Mwakilema, cutting the ribbon, reminded villagers that the station also helps protect the nearby Mkomazi National Park:
"This facility strengthens both community safety and the security of our natural resources."

Assistant Police Commissioner Joseph Ng’weve thanked TANAPA, emphasizing that the station would be a lifeline for residents who previously lacked nearby police support.

Kalalani Village Chairman Orolonyo Tulakani welcomed the project, saying it would reduce crime, enhance peace, and give residents confidence in their safety.

The official launch on September 22, 2025, included a contribution of three acres of land by villagers for the station.

The project marks a strong partnership between TANAPA and the police, showing how collaboration can directly improve the daily lives and security of citizens.
