The Ngorongoro Lengai UNESCO Global Geopark Museum is fast becoming a beacon of cultural heritage and tourism development in Tanzania.

On Friday, August 29, 2025, the museum welcomed a special visit from the Controller and Auditor General (CAG), Mr. Charles Kichere, who also planted a commemorative tree at the site, symbolizing the growing importance of preserving cultural and natural heritage.

Accompanied by the Commissioner for Conservation at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), Mr. Abdul-Razaq Badru, and the museum management team, CAG Kichere toured the facility and explored exhibits that highlight the unique history, traditions, and lifestyles of communities in the Ngorongoro area.

The visit offered an opportunity to witness firsthand how investment in cultural institutions can drive both tourism and education.

Inside the museum, Dr. Agnes Gidna, Chief Conservation Officer and cultural heritage expert at NCAA, briefed the CAG on the museum’s role as a center for learning and tourism.

Mr. Kichere expressed his admiration for the initiative, noting that the museum sets a benchmark for public investment that promotes cultural awareness while boosting local and national tourism.

The Ngorongoro Lengai Geological Reserve, home to the museum, is globally renowned for its exceptional natural and cultural assets.

It features Mount Lengai, the world’s only active carbonatite volcano, and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, known for its ancient human history and the rich traditions of pastoralist communities.

By combining education, heritage preservation, and tourism promotion, the Ngorongoro Lengai Museum is positioning Tanzania as a global destination for cultural and ecological exploration.

Authorities hope the museum will attract international and local visitors alike, while also serving as a hub for research and learning about the country’s geological and cultural wealth.

With initiatives like this, Tanzania is not only safeguarding its heritage but also creating pathways for economic growth through sustainable tourism, showcasing the nation’s commitment to preserving its history while embracing the future.
