Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan addressed thousands of supporters at Tumbaku Grounds in Morogoro on Friday, highlighting her government’s achievements in the region and unveiling new initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.
During her working visit, Samia emphasized the completion of major development milestones, including the launch of a new cigarette factory, the inauguration of the Berege Bridge, the 142-kilometer Ludewa–Kilosa road, and the Ruaha Bridge.
She said these projects have boosted connectivity, trade, and industrial activity in the region.
“We have delivered tangible results that improve the daily lives of residents. These achievements are part of our commitment to equitable development across all regions,” Samia told the crowd.
She reaffirmed her government’s dedication to ensuring access to clean and safe water. Ongoing water projects include the construction of the Kidunda Dam, short-term supply initiatives in Kihonda, Mkundi, Mindu, and Kingolwira, the expansion of the Mindu Dam, and the Mafiga water treatment project.
These initiatives, she said, will provide sustainable water access for households, schools, and businesses.
In road infrastructure, Samia announced that the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) budget for the 2025/26 financial year had been increased to support construction and rehabilitation of key roads. Priority projects include the Msamvu–Morogoro–Bigwa road, the Morogoro–Dodoma highway, and the Mkundi Bridge, which will enhance regional trade and mobility.
On healthcare, Samia highlighted progress in expanding access, with 28 new health centers and 28 dispensaries under construction.
She also pointed to new laboratories and a surgical unit at Tungi Hospital, a maternity and children’s ward at Mafiga, and the ongoing implementation of Universal Health Insurance to reduce out-of-pocket costs for families.
Education initiatives include the construction of 190 new secondary school classrooms to accommodate growing student populations, while energy projects include a new electricity substation to improve supply reliability in urban and rural areas.
In trade and economic development, Samia announced plans to build modern markets in Morogoro Municipality and Kilosa, alongside storage facilities to support local traders. Agriculture initiatives include continued provision of subsidies, certified quality seeds, and five new grain warehouses along the Standard Gauge Railway corridor in Kilosa to improve crop storage and reduce post-harvest losses.
Other infrastructure projects include the 67-kilometer Ifakara–Mahenge road, the Morogoro–Njombe road link, and the establishment of the Morogoro Convention Centre, aimed at attracting investment and hosting business and cultural events.
Addressing land ownership challenges, Samia assured residents that land surveying and title deed issuance would continue to secure property rights and empower citizens economically.
The rally at Tumbaku Grounds drew enthusiastic crowds, with residents welcoming Samia’s commitments with chants and applause. The event reflected widespread support for CCM’s development agenda as the country approaches the general election.
