Community Shield clash set for September 16

By Flora Mkoloma

The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has announced that this year’s Community Shield, which traditionally opens the football season, will be held on September 16.

Young Africans (Yanga) are set to face archrivals Simba SC in a highly anticipated one-off clash that promises to set the tone for the upcoming season.

According to TFF Communications Officer Clifford Mario Ndimbo, the federation has revised the format of the Community Shield following changes approved at the latest Executive Committee meeting.

“This year, the Community Shield will be played as a single match instead of the usual three starting from the semifinals and ending with the final due to a tight schedule created by CAF competitions,” Ndimbo explained.

Tanzania is currently hosting the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, running from August 2 to 30, while the national team, Taifa Stars, is preparing for two World Cup qualifying matches later this month.

After the Community Shield, Tanzanian clubs will turn their focus to the preliminary rounds of CAF club competitions.
