Azam FC Assistant Coach, Kassim Liogope, says the Tanzanian side is fully prepared to take on Sudan’s El Merrickh Bentiu in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup, set for September 19–21 this year.

The Ice Cream Makers are currently holding an intensive training camp in Karatu, Arusha, as they fine-tune their squad for both the upcoming domestic league season and their continental campaign, which kicks off away from home.

Liogope explained that the team has been working with the awareness that they will be juggling both domestic and international duties this season.

He stressed that the preparations are aimed at ensuring a strong start in Africa’s second-tier club competition.

“We respect our opponents. They are a quality side that’s why they’re here. It’s not about luck, it’s about ability. We’ve never played them before, but we are ready to face any opponent and are planning carefully for how to handle them,” Liogope said.

He added that the team had been eagerly anticipating the tournament draw and now that they know their rivals, all focus is on sharpening their play and strategy.

“We welcomed the draw with both hands. Now that we know who we’re facing, the work continues  we want to make sure we’re fully ready for international competition,” he said.

With confidence high in camp, Azam will be aiming to secure a vital result on the road before returning home for the second leg.
