Twenty candidates have submitted nomination forms to contest various leadership positions in the upcoming Tanzania Athletics Federation (RT) General Elections, which are scheduled to take place on August 16, 2025, in Mwanza city. The deadline for both collecting and returning nomination forms closed on July 18, 2025.
Speaking to journalists on July 21, Leonard Thadeo, Chairman of the RT Election Committee, confirmed that among the candidates, six are competing for the presidency, two for the vice president roles, one for the women’s representative position, and ten for executive committee member seats.
The committee is currently reviewing the submitted forms to verify which candidates meet the eligibility criteria. The final list of shortlisted candidates invited for interviews will be announced on July 25, 2025.
“After receiving the nomination forms, we are carefully verifying the qualifications and eligibility of each candidate. Those who meet the requirements will be called for interviews scheduled for August 1, 2025,” Thadeo explained.
He also added that between August 2 and August 8, there will be a period allocated to hear any complaints or objections from candidates dissatisfied with the process.
The official campaign period will run from August 9 until election day on August 16, 2025.
Candidates for the presidency include Angelus Stephen Likwembe, Juma Ramadhan Ikangaa, Rogath John Stephen, William Steven Kallaghe, Nsoro Malongo Mlozi, and Silas Lucas Isangi.
For the vice president positions, Baraka Elias Sulus and Jackson Beda Ndaweka are contesting. The women’s representative candidates are Noela Joseph Mafuru and Lwiza John Msyani.
Meanwhile, the executive committee member seats are being contested by Christina Salu Paga, Sylvia Sylvester Rushokana, Shenya Imori, Alfredo Sumni Shahanga, Tullo Stephen Chambo, Michael Washa, Ibrahim Adam, Andrew Boniface Rhobi, Tabu Mwandu, and Joshua Kayombo.
