Iringa to host 2025 national school sports for first time

 More than 10,000 participants are expected to take part in the national school sports competitions UMITASHUMTA (for primary schools) and UMISSETA (for secondary schools) which will be hosted in Iringa Region for the first time in 2025. The event is being hailed as a historic milestone for the region.

Iringa Regional Commissioner, Peter Serukamba, confirmed the news during a press briefing, describing the opportunity as a significant honor for Iringa.

 He expressed heartfelt appreciation to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for entrusting Iringa with hosting duties for this prestigious national event.

“We are truly grateful to President Dr. Samia for bestowing this great honor upon us. For the first time, Iringa will host these major competitions, which have previously been held in Tabora Region for three consecutive years,” said Serukamba.

According to the official schedule, the UMITASHUMTA games will take place from June 8 to June 17, 2025, followed by the UMISSETA competitions from June 8 to June 30, 2025.

The event is expected to bring together students, sports teachers, officials, and leaders from the education and sports sectors across all regions of Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Sports to be contested include football, basketball, volleyball, netball, and goalball for students with special needs. In addition, modern music performances will be featured to entertain and energize participants and fans alike.

The main venues for the competitions will include Iringa Girls’ Secondary School, Lugalo Secondary School, and Klerru Teachers College.

Hon. Serukamba also encouraged Iringa residents to take full advantage of this opportunity by offering various services that could boost the local economy.

He called on the public to turn out in large numbers for the official opening ceremony on June 9, 2025, emphasizing that their support will contribute to national efforts in promoting sports and nurturing the talents of Tanzanian youth.
