President Samia approves seven bills into law

By Alfred Zacharia

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially signed seven key bills into law, including the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation Bill, 2024, which was approved by Members of Parliament during the 18th meeting of the 12th Parliament.

This marks a significant step in strengthening Tanzania’s legal and governance framework.

Deputy Speaker Mussa Azzan Zungu shared the news in the National Assembly yesterday, confirming that all seven bills had been signed into law by the President and are now ready for implementation.

One of the main pieces of legislation is the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill (No. 3) of 2024, which is now known as the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act No. 3 of 2025.

Similarly, the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill (No. 4) of 2024 has been enacted and is now the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act No. 4 of 2025. These amendments aim to update and improve existing laws to better meet the country’s needs.

The Environmental Management Amendment Bill (No. 5) of 2024 has also been signed into law, now called the Environmental Management Amendment Act No. 5 of 2025.

This law strengthens environmental protection efforts, promoting sustainable practices in industries and helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Another significant law is the Investment and Special Economic Zones Bill (No. 6) of 2024, which is now the Special Economic Zones Act No. 6 of 2025.

This law provides clearer guidelines for businesses operating in special economic zones and aims to attract more investment to stimulate economic growth.

In addition, President Samia signed the Supplementary Appropriation Bill for the Financial Year 2024/25 into law, now known as the Supplementary Appropriation Act No. 7 of 2024/2025.

This will provide additional funds for government projects and initiatives.

The Labour Law Amendment Act No. 4 of 2024, now the Labour Law Amendment Act No. 4 of 2025, was also signed into law.

This amendment seeks to improve working conditions and protect workers’ rights in various industries.

The Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation Bill, 2024, which has now been signed into law, is a major development.

This new law gives the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) a clear legal framework to guide its operations.

Established in 2007, TBC has operated without specific legislation until now. The new law will expand its mandate, making it a more effective public service broadcaster.

These new laws reflect President Samia’s commitment to enhancing governance, protecting the environment, and fostering economic growth. With these bills now in place, Tanzania is better positioned to address its current challenges and achieve sustainable development.
