Mkuranga—Deramann Consumer Group, a prominent tissue paper together with dentaweiss toothpaste manufacturer based in Mauritius, recently inaugurated a factory warehouse in Mkuranga, Tanzania, strengthening its footprint in East Africa.
Led by Director Maryvonne Pigeot, the company is leveraging its decades-long expertise in paper products and health care to introduce eco-friendly alternatives in Tanzania, in line with the nation's commitment to reducing plastic use.
As a licensed partner of Kleenex Brand, an internationally recognized tissue paper brand, Deramann Consumer Group has set out to challenge the Tanzanian market’s established paper industry players.
"Tanzania is on the verge of a transformation, moving from plastic to paper products, and we’re here to help drive that change," said Maryvonne in an exclusive interview.
The ban on plastic bags enacted in 2019 has opened up new opportunities for sustainable products, creating fertile ground for companies like Deramann to promote paper-based alternatives.
Through partnerships with Tanzania's Ministry of Health, our dentaweiss toothpaste products, has rolled out community initiatives to foster health awareness and personal hygiene. "Our new tissue products are designed with the community in mind. By educating people on the benefits of paper over plastic, we’re not only changing lifestyles but also encouraging eco-friendly habits," Pigeot noted.
The firm is gearing up for a public event at Dodoma's Nyerere Square, where it will collaborate with the Ministry of Health to host physical exercises and engage the community in health and environmental education about our dentaweiss toothpaste products. This initiative aims to foster direct connections with Tanzanians and promote physical and environmental well-being.
Beyond Tanzania, Deramann Consumer Group plans to expand into neighboring countries, including Malawi, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, further extending its mission to improve health standards and environmental practices across Africa.
According to Maryvonne, the company is committed to supporting special groups, including youth and women, through campaigns that promote the health benefits of their tissue and toothpaste products.
This forward-thinking approach highlights Deramann’s dedication to community welfare and sustainable development, marking a promising future for the firm in East Africa.
