Ruvuma, –President Samia Suluhu Hassan has September 28, 2024, announced significant strides in enhancing electricity access across Tanzania, particularly through the ongoing construction of the Tunduru substation and the associated power transmission lines, which have reached 50% completion.
Addressing residents during her visit to the Ruvuma region, President Samia emphasized that the successful completion of this project will not only benefit the Ruvuma region but will also connect the regions of Lindi and Mtwara to the national grid. “The completion of this project will enhance the power supply in Ruvuma and facilitate access to electricity for our neighbors,” she stated.
The President highlighted the government's commitment to expanding electricity services, revealing that the Rural Energy Agency (Rea) has successfully brought electricity to 541 out of 551 villages in Ruvuma. She reaffirmed the government’s efforts to extend these services to remote areas, ensuring that every village has access to electricity.
Furthermore, President Samia urged citizens who are yet to receive compensation for land acquired for energy projects to cooperate, assuring them that the government will honor all compensation claims. “No citizen will be left without compensation,” she stressed.
In addition, the President called on government leaders and public servants to continue educating communities on the benefits of using clean cooking energy to protect both public health and the environment. She underscored the importance of transitioning to sustainable energy practices to improve the quality of life for Tanzanians while preserving the nation's forests.
