Tanzania is seeking to deepen cooperation with Türkiye in disaster risk reduction, emergency response and recovery systems as the two countries expand bilateral ties in trade, investment and social development.
Prime Minister’s Office Permanent Secretary for Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities Dr Jim Yonazi said Tanzania could benefit from Türkiye’s technical expertise and modern technologies in strengthening the country’s capacity to prepare for and respond to disasters.
Dr Yonazi made the remarks during a visit to the Tanzanian Embassy in Ankara as part of his working visit to Türkiye, which is focused on strengthening institutional capacity, technical knowledge and cooperation in disaster management.
He commended the embassy for its role in promoting Tanzania-Türkiye relations, particularly in diplomacy, trade, investment and social development.
“The cooperation between Tanzania and Türkiye continues to grow rapidly,” Dr Yonazi said, linking the relationship to Tanzania’s economic diplomacy, the National Development Vision 2050 and high-level engagements between leaders of the two countries.
He said closer technical cooperation would be important in developing modern systems for disaster preparedness, emergency response and post-disaster recovery.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss ways of strengthening institutional capacity and sharing technical knowledge as Tanzania works to improve its disaster management systems.
Acting Ambassador Levina Maleo, who is also the embassy’s head of administration, thanked Dr Yonazi for visiting the mission and reaffirmed the embassy’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
She said the embassy would continue promoting Tanzania’s opportunities in education, health and social development while supporting closer relations between the two countries.
