The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is carrying out maintenance works along the 223.5-kilometre Singida–Gehandu–Katesh–Dareda–Babati–Minjingu road to improve connectivity between Singida and Manyara regions and facilitate the movement of passengers and goods.

The road is an important transport link for communities and businesses in the two regions, supporting the movement of agricultural produce and other commodities while contributing to local economic activities.

The maintenance works cover 54.96 kilometres between Singida and Gehandu in Singida Region, while the remaining 168.54 kilometres extend from Gehandu to Minjingu in Manyara Region.

Singida Regional TANROADS Manager, Engineer Samaradi Kijazi, said the works in her region include pothole repairs and other interventions aimed at improving the road's condition, enhancing safety and making journeys easier for motorists.

In Manyara, regional TANROADS manager Engineer Dutu Masele said the works include pothole patching, construction and cleaning of rainwater drainage channels, resealing and the application of asphalt concrete on designated sections.

The interventions are expected to improve road conditions, reduce transport difficulties and support the movement of farm produce and other goods to markets. Improved connectivity could also help facilitate trade and strengthen economic links between communities along the route.

The maintenance programme forms part of TANROADS' efforts to preserve the road network and improve the safety and reliability of transport infrastructure for road users.
