Kenyan driver Karan Patel has won the 2026 African rally title after finishing first in the Serengeti Rally of Tanzania held in Morogoro.

Patel, alongside co-driver Tauseef Khan, emerged overall winner of the four-day competition staged from October 1 to 4 in the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) forest in Morogoro.

The victory capped a strong performance by the Kenyan pair, who maintained their position at the top through the rally stages to secure the continental crown.

Patel and Khan competed for the Asas team, which also secured the second position through Tanzanian driver Manveer Bird and his co-driver Zubayr Piredina.

Bird's second-place finish gave Tanzania a strong result in its home event as drivers from across the region competed for honours.

The rally attracted competitors from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia and Tanzania, turning Morogoro into a regional motorsport centre during the four-day event.

For Patel, the result adds another major achievement to his rallying career, while the performance of Bird provides a notable result for the hosts.

The competition also offered Tanzanian fans an opportunity to watch drivers from across East and Central Africa compete on local terrain.

The event's demanding stages in the TFS forest tested the drivers and their cars, with consistency and pace proving crucial in determining the final standings.

Patel's victory places Kenya at the top of the continental competition, while Bird's runner-up finish ensured Tanzania featured prominently in the final results.

The Serengeti Rally of Tanzania is among the major motorsport events hosted in the country, bringing together competitors from several African countries and providing a platform for local drivers to compete against established regional names.
