NMB Bank has launched a dedicated service desk for customers with disabilities, introducing video support and sign-language interpreters to make banking services more accessible.
The new service, established at NMB’s Contact Centre, is designed to assist customers with hearing, visual and physical disabilities while reducing communication barriers that can limit access to financial services.
Customers can access the service through NMB’s toll-free number 0800 002002, video support on WhatsApp assisted by sign-language interpreters, as well as through NMB branches across the country.
Speaking during the launch of Customer Service Week 2026 in Dar es Salaam, NMB Chief of Personal and Business Banking, Filbert Mponzi, said the initiative was intended to ensure customers with disabilities could access banking services with dignity and on an equal basis.
“We want customers with disabilities to access our services with dignity, equality and privacy, without having to depend on other people whenever they need banking support,” Mr Mponzi said.
The initiative was welcomed by the Tanzania Federation of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (SHIVYAWATA), which said improved communication was essential to ensuring people with disabilities could participate fully in the formal financial system.
SHIVYAWATA chairman Nemes Temba commended NMB for establishing the dedicated desk, saying it would help address communication barriers faced by people with disabilities when accessing financial services.
He said greater accessibility would enable more people with disabilities to independently use banking services and participate in economic activities.
The initiative comes as financial institutions face growing pressure to make banking services more accessible, particularly as digital channels become increasingly important in everyday transactions.
