GEITA. Deputy Minister for Minerals Dr Steven Lemomo Kiruswa has urged Waja General Ltd to expand its mining equipment services nationwide to improve access to modern equipment for miners.
Dr Kiruswa made the call yesterday when he visited the company’s stand at the ninth National Mining Technology Exhibition at the Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan grounds in Geita Municipality.
He said expanding the distribution of mining equipment beyond Geita would enable more miners to access equipment and potentially improve their operations.
“Honourable Engineer Chacha, you are a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals. I urge you to distribute these machines across the country so that more miners can benefit,” Dr Kiruswa said.
Waja General Ltd is owned by Geita Urban MP Engineer Chacha Wambura, who welcomed the minister’s proposal.
Mr Wambura said the company had already started providing the services in Geita and was prepared to extend them to miners in other areas.
“There is no doubt, Honourable Deputy Minister. We were among the first to provide these services here in Geita, and we can also extend them to other miners,” he said.
The minister’s call comes as the mining sector continues to seek wider access to modern technologies and equipment, particularly for small-scale miners seeking to improve efficiency and productivity.
Speaking during the visit, Waja General Ltd officer Juline Ngowi said the company provides services in several areas, including engineering, insurance, microfinance and education.
She said the company’s activities include Waja Secondary School, Waja General Microfinance, home and property insurance, engineering services, and life and health insurance.
