The government will allocate Sh600 million to Makambako Town Council before December 2026 for the construction of Kitandililo Health Centre, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Prof Riziki Shemdoe, has said.

The project is expected to bring essential healthcare services closer to residents and improve access to timely and quality medical care.

Prof Shemdoe made the announcement in Makambako on October 17, 2026, during a public meeting attended by Vice-President Deogratius Ndejembi, who was visiting Njombe Region to inspect the implementation of development projects.

The minister was given an opportunity to outline measures being taken by the Prime Minister’s Office to strengthen primary healthcare services.

“Mr Vice-President, we have secured Sh600 million, which we will bring to Makambako for the construction of Kitandililo Health Centre before December, so that residents can access quality medical services in a timely manner,” Prof Shemdoe said.

Responding to a request by Makambako MP and Minister for Agriculture Daniel Chongolo for the construction of two dispensaries, Prof Shemdoe said his office was working to secure funding for the proposed facilities.

He said the government would use the funds once they became available to construct the dispensaries and further expand access to healthcare services in the area.

Meanwhile, Vice-President Ndejembi acknowledged the efforts of Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Education, Dr Festo Dugange, and Prof Shemdoe, particularly during his tenure as Permanent Secretary, in overseeing the construction of the Wanging’ombe Regional Special Talented Girls’ Science School.

The planned construction of Kitandililo Health Centre forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery and support the implementation of the National Development Vision 2050.

The project is expected to help reduce maternal and child deaths, lower medical and transport costs, strengthen community health and improve productivity by ensuring that more people can access healthcare services closer to their homes.
