Lupa MP Masache Kasaka has urged the Government to address three major challenges facing Chunya District, calling for improved access to clean water, better roads and more mining opportunities for small-scale miners.
Kasaka, who also chairs the Mbeya Region parliamentary caucus, made the appeal on Friday, October 16, 2026, while presenting residents’ concerns to Deputy President Deogratius John Ndejembi during a public meeting held as part of his tour to inspect development projects in Mbeya Region.
He said residents appreciated the Government’s investment in development projects but maintained that urgent intervention was needed to address persistent challenges affecting livelihoods and economic growth in the district.
“Deputy President, allow me to welcome you to Mbeya Region. The people of Chunya appreciate the implementation of various development projects, which reflect the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan,” Kasaka said.
The Deputy President’s inspection tour included a water storage tank under a project drawing water from the Kiwira River, a four-lane road construction project and a power generation project in Iganjo, Mbeya City.
Kasaka identified access to clean and safe water as one of the district’s pressing challenges, saying Chunya had yet to benefit from the Government’s water programme covering 28 towns.
“Residents of Chunya face water challenges. Although implementation of the 28-town programme has started in some areas, Chunya is yet to benefit. I ask you to follow up on this matter to ensure our people have access to clean and safe water,” he said.
He said reliable water services were essential to improving living standards and supporting economic activities, urging the Government to expedite efforts to extend the service to Chunya.
On transport infrastructure, Kasaka called for the improvement of the Makongoro–Mkiwa road, which he said was important in connecting Mbeya with Singida and Tabora regions.
He said upgrading the road would ease the movement of people and goods, improve access to markets and create opportunities for trade and other economic activities.
“Today, you have inspected the construction of a four-lane road, but we in Chunya have a road connecting Mbeya with Singida and Tabora, from Makongoro to Mkiwa. We ask you to convey this concern to the President to help unlock economic opportunities for our people,” he said.
Kasaka said better road infrastructure would strengthen regional connectivity and enable residents to transport agricultural produce and other
