Students admitted to more than one university have until September 21 to confirm a single institution, the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) has announced.

The directive comes as TCU opens the second round of undergraduate admissions for the 2026/27 academic year, giving thousands of applicants another opportunity to secure university places.

TCU Executive Secretary Prof Charles Kihampa said yesterday that the confirmation exercise starts on September 8 and will run through September 21.

Applicants admitted to multiple universities must use the special verification code sent to the phone number or email address they provided during the application process to confirm their preferred institution.

Prof Kihampa urged applicants to complete the process carefully and follow instructions issued by TCU and their respective universities to avoid problems with their admission status.

Those encountering difficulties during confirmation have been advised to contact the universities to which they were admitted for assistance.

The second admission round also targets applicants who either did not apply during the first round or failed to secure a place.

TCU has invited such applicants to use the September 8–21 window to apply to universities offering programmes of their choice.

The latest figures show that demand for university education remains high, with 149,645 applicants seeking admission to 93 universities accredited to offer undergraduate programmes during the first round.

At the same time, universities have increased their admission capacity to 227,555 places for the 2026/27 academic year, up from 205,652 places in 2025/26.

This represents an increase of 21,903 places, or 10.7 percent, giving more applicants an opportunity to access higher education.

Of those who applied in the first round, 117,334 applicants, equivalent to 78.4 percent, secured admission to universities they applied to.

TCU expects the number of successful applicants to increase after the second round.

The commission has urged applicants to make timely decisions and complete the required confirmation procedures before the September 21 deadline.
